Assessment Services

At Embrace Psychology we are committed to providing comprehensive psychological assessments tailored to meet the needs of children and individuals across the lifespan. Our team specialises in a range of assessments designed to highlight unique strengths, challenges, and paths forward.

Assessments we offer include:

Cognitive Assessments: Cognitive assessments are designed to evaluate general intellectual abilities, including memory, problem-solving skills, attention, and processing speed. These assessments are beneficial for understanding a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, guiding educational planning, and identifying potential cognitive impairments or exceptionalities.

Learning Assessments: Learning assessments delve into the specific processes underlying learning and academic performance. These evaluations are essential for identifying learning disorders in reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), and math (dyscalculia). By pinpointing the specific areas of difficulty, we can develop personalised support plans that cater to each individual's learning style, helping them to achieve their full academic potential.

Autism Assessments: Our autism assessments are holistic, neuro-affirming, and tailored to each individual. We aim to provide insights to empower autistic individuals and their families. We use a variety of tools and techniques to gather a comprehensive picture of strengths, challenges, and support needs. Our process includes interviews, observations, and standardised assessments, all conducted in a respectful, pressure-free environment with the aim to understand the individual's social interaction, communication skills, and behaviour patterns

At Embrace we celebrate the diversity of the human mind. Our autism assessments are designed with a deep respect for neurodiversity and the unique strengths and perspectives that autistic individuals bring to our world.  Neurodiversity is the concept that variations in the human brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions are a natural part of human variation. Our assessments recognise and honour these differences, seeking to understand each individual's unique neurology.

Affirming Feedback: After the assessment, we provide detailed feedback that emphasises understanding, acceptance, and practical strategies for navigating life in a way that respects neurodiversity. Our reports aim to be empowering, highlighting pathways for growth, learning, and support.

What to Expect: Our assessment process begins with an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and determine which assessment(s) are most appropriate for your situation. Following this, we conduct thorough evaluations using evidence-based tools and techniques. After completing the assessments, we provide a detailed report of the findings, including recommendations for interventions, strategies for support, and referrals if needed.

Therapy

At Embrace Psychology, therapy is individually tailored in order to best meet the unique needs of each client following an initial assessment. Treatment considerations include the goals of the child and parent, the age and developmental ability of the child and the presenting concern.

Common presenting concerns may include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, developmental delays, self esteem, behaviour concerns, trauma, emotion regulation delays, attachment and relationship issues, parenting strategies and support (eg., circle of security, incredible years). Embrace Psychology also aims to provide a neuroaffirming approach to neurodivergent individuals (eg., autism, adhd) in working towards any identified goals they may have.

Parent Support

Parents are an essential component of the therapy process at Embrace Psychology. Working with younger children requires their parents and carers to be an important part of the therapy process. Older children may be more independent within their therapy sessions but will need the support of their parents to implement and practice strategies between sessions.

We are available to provide support to parents to understand their child’s behaviours and provide evidence based therapeutic and educational programs
